Privacy Policy
Strolls records walks and creates cards from your route and photos. This policy describes local storage, external communication, sharing and deletion in the current app.
1. Overview
Walks, app-managed photo copies and your display name are stored on your device. Strolls has no account, advertising SDK, analytics SDK or developer-operated data collection server. Maps require external requests to OpenFreeMap. Opening public pages sends ordinary request information to GitHub Pages. Sharing is initiated by you.
2. Information stored on your device
- Route: latitude, longitude, recording time, accuracy, altitude, speed and sequence are stored in the local SQLite database to display your route and calculate distance.
- Walk: title, area name, notes, labels, start/end/pause times, paused duration, distance, duration, cover selection and saved state are stored locally to create, edit and revisit cards.
- Motion and steps: step counts are stored locally. When sensor data is unavailable, steps are estimated from distance.
- Photos: selected and captured photos are copied into app-managed storage, resizing images to a maximum of 2048 pixels on the longest side when needed. Original selected photos are unchanged. With permission, originals taken with the in-app camera are also saved to your photo library.
- Photo information: addition/capture time, captions and cover selection are stored locally. A photo's existing location, or the current location available when taking it, may be stored to show it on the route. Copied photo files may retain embedded metadata such as dates, device model and camera settings.
- Local profile: a locally generated user ID and your chosen display name are stored in SQLite. The ID is not an advertising identifier or Apple Account. Neither it nor your display name is included in shared cards.
3. External communication
Maps
When a map is displayed, the visible tile coordinates (an approximate area), IP address and ordinary request metadata identifying the operating system or networking software are sent to OpenFreeMap and its delivery providers. Your full GPS route, photos, steps and display name are not sent.
OpenFreeMap describes keeping anonymized basic logs without IP addresses in ordinary logs, and potentially retaining IP addresses for up to 30 days for security incidents. See OpenFreeMap's privacy policy.
Public pages
Only when you open Privacy Policy or Support from Settings, an iOS browser view requests the public page hosted on GitHub Pages. The IP address and ordinary request metadata may be sent to GitHub and its delivery providers. Your walks, GPS route, photos, steps, labels and display name are not included.
Sharing
When you choose to open the iOS share sheet, the generated Walk Card image and app link are passed to iOS. Images may include photos, a route, distance, duration, steps and labels. You select the destination, whose policy applies after sending. Check for locations you do not want to disclose, such as your home or workplace, before sharing.
4. Retention and deletion
- Saved walks and your display name remain locally until you take action.
- Delete Walk is a logical deletion. The walk immediately disappears from lists and details and cannot be restored in the app. Underlying local records and app-managed photo copies remain on the device.
- Uninstalling the app removes its local database and app-managed photo copies from the device.
- Depending on iOS backup settings, the database and managed photo copies may be included in an Apple-managed device backup and restored later. The developer does not transmit, store or access that backup; retention and deletion are controlled by Apple and your iOS settings.
- Original photos in the Photos library remain after the app is uninstalled. Delete them separately in Photos if needed.
5. Permissions
You can change location, motion, camera and photo permissions in iOS Settings. Walks can be saved with the information available when a permission is declined. Without location access there is no recorded route or distance; without motion access measured steps are unavailable; photo permissions affect adding photos.
6. Tracking and third parties
Strolls does not perform advertising tracking or request App Tracking Transparency permission. The developer does not provide your local walk data to third parties except as required by law. Map requests and user-initiated sharing are described above.
7. Changes
If a released feature changes data handling, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy answers. We will also provide notice in the app if additional information will be sent off the device.
